Day One: The Best Movie I've Seen During The last Year.

The Dark Knight Rises

What a shocker, right? Who would have ever thought this would be my pick for the best movie I've seen in the last year, let alone of all time. Admittedly this choice does not do Christopher Nolan's film quite the justice it deserves but I couldn't wait. I apologize in advance for how long this review might be but based on the magnitude and size of this movie alone it deserves such.  The Dark Knight Rises is the third installment in one of the most epic trilogies of all time, starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway. TDKR is by far the most visually jarring and well written movies I have ever seen, the sheer scope and acting set this movie as a stand alone against some of the greatest films of all time. Whether you loved or hate it, you can't knock it. I left satisfied by this character driven, smart and courageous films Nolan or anyone of this time has dared released to the masses.
Nolan really stepped out of his comfort zone with this one; adapting a comic book to the silver screen is hard enough but doing it in the most realistic way is Nolan's forte; the Dark Knight Rises is comic incarnate. Nolan followed the formula Joss Whedon made famous in comic book adaptations and blew it out of the water. From the interactions and witty banter between Selina Kyle and the Batman, to the meeting of Bane and the Bat in the sewers, to the final thirty minutes that made me feel like I had just experienced my first love come and leave all over again. To fully appreciate the true brilliance of The Dark Knight Rises you must remember it's roots. "You can't hate the roots without hating the tree." Batman Begins was smart, and a gradual adventure that taught us, much like Ra's Al Ghul taught Bruse Wayne. The Dark Knight was fast, jarring, chaotic, relentless; like the Joker kept Batman on his toes; Nolan never let us catch our breath. The Dark Knight Rises features Bane, methodical, calculating, cold and brilliant bringing us down just to watch us rise up and truly understand what Gotham had become. After watching it again I've come to the conclusion that it may rival 'The Dark Knight' but TDKR is a film you cannot put in the same category as it's predecessor. Christopher Nolan's film are in no way perfect but the man is a genius. I've seen multitudes of essays and reviews trying to nitpick and uncover the plotholes; some claiming it was too smart for people or that TDKR wasn't 'their' Batman. Well I hate to break it to people but it isn't your Batman and yes some of you were to stupid to figure it out. This movie was genius.

  1. Wow. Awesome review bro. THis review was genius. The movie isn't as great as the The Dark Knight but I feel like what makes it better then the Dark Knight is the ending. It ended perfect. I shed a damn tear, and then I got goosebumps in that last Alfred scene. And when you know who, finds you know what, and the movie ended. No spoiler alerts!
