3 out of 5 Lebowski's
The new Childish Gambino mixtape is a good one. The only knock on it, I’ve heard this from many listeners, is that he doesn’t rap enough on the tracks. But in his defense it’s only a mixtape, a damn good one. The beats on every track are excellent especially on “American Royaty” (ft. RZA and Hypnotic Brass Orchestra) and “Toxic” (ft. Danny Brown) which is a sample from Britney Spears “Toxic”. He has a good array of artists with him and I was personally excited for RZA and Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang). He also has Beck on “Silk Pillow”, everyone loves when Beck raps, and Blake Griffin doing the intro. Oh yeah and Tina Fey is on the last track “Real Estate”. Yes you read it right, Tina Fey! When I heard she was on the mixtape I didn’t know what to expect but once I heard her it was perfect. I was happy that he had her on a track because he always says he owes his career to her. It was a cool and clever way to show his respect.
All and all it is good mixtape. Definitely something to bob your head to. If you like good beats and good selection of artist then you would definitely enjoy ROYALTY. I feel like this is going to lead to a very good album that’s even better than the others. I have the up most respect for Childish and I know he’ll never disappoint. He’ll always keep you on your toes and keep coming out with new, different, and innovative ways to keep his audience entertained.
